"Soba no Hana" in Hokkaido

In Hokkaido, buckwheat honey harvesting will finally begin next week.

Beekeeping club members who are on a business trip to Hokkaido have been working since 2 a.m. in preparation for honey harvesting.

The hives are moved early in the morning to avoid causing stress to the bees.

We drive the truck carefully through the darkness and thick fog containing Hokkaido's seawater.

Soba is a fascinating plant whose flowers are a source of nectar and whose fruits are milled into noodles.

The buckwheat flowers in Hokkaido were blooming beautifully again this year.

Buckwheat honey harvested every summer

It has a unique taste that you wouldn't expect from its small and adorable appearance.

As soon as you put it in your mouth, the characteristic floral aroma spreads through your nose.

Afterwards, a deep sweetness and sourness reminiscent of brown sugar lingers in your mouth.

This is a type of honey with a strong flavor, so people's tastes are clearly divided.

This is a must-try for anyone interested in honey.

Beyond the beehives is a buckwheat field.
