Unique Production Philosophy “Wholesome Apiriculture”

Our Promise to the Earth

It is vital to care for the natural environment in order to care for our customers’ health, and confidently offer them safe and delicious honey. Working with bees every single day as beekeepers further solidifies our opinions regarding our idea that,"Beekeeping and agriculture is one part of nature’s big cycle".

Wholesome Apiriculture (Apiculture + Agriculture) is the original production philosophy of Sugi Bee Garden. It has been lovingly cultivated over 70 years in the industry.

Making Beehive Boxes to Protect Bees
We make beehive boxes in preparation for the honey extraction season in spring. The bees can reside in these beehive boxes during winter, when they take a deserved rest.
The materials used for the beehive boxes – cedar wood from Kumamoto – is slowly dried for 2-3 months before the necessary sections of the wood are carefully planned. The high level of attention to detail involved in the manufacture of these beehive boxes result in them taking approx. 7 months to complete.
It has been a 72-year long tradition for the beekeepers themselves to lovingly make each and every one of the beehive boxes by hand. The completed beehive boxes are an accumulation of the ingenuity and originality of generations of past young beekeepers.
We want to continue to evolve in order to successfully satisfy the situations of the time.

Actually Practicing Wholesome Apiriculture (Apiculture + Agriculture) Around the World
Practicing "Wholesome Apiriculture (Apiculture + Agriculture)" in a global environment, beekeepers endeavor to check the conditions of local flowers and bees with their very own eyes. This yearly check is done to cooperate with beekeepers around the world, ensuring the highest possible quality of extracted honey is always achieved.
Sugi Bee Garden’s “Pure Ripened Honey” is slowly matured after having its sugar content increased via the flapping of the bee’s wings.
Only honey which passes the original criteria like this, such as Manuka honey from New Zealand, is made available to the customer.

Practising Wholesome Apiriculture (Apiculture + Agriculture) via our own Cultivation
Beekeepers grow a variety of crops through honey bee pollination.
Approx. 1,200 kumquats in our orchard are all lovingly looked after by hand. Other practises are also done by hand – from the wood vinegar pest control to the picking of fruit to increase sugar content, and the extraction of honey.
This loving hand care results in deliciously ripe kumquats which are full of the blessings of nature.
We like to ensure with our very own hands the best possible surroundings for both our honey bees and our crops. We continuously nurture them and only deliver them to the customer once they have met our high standards. This method has always been at the heart of Sugi Bee Garden.

Practicing the Basis for Wholesome Apiriculture (Apiculture + Agriculture)
Beekeeping and agriculture are both seen as one in terms of the vast nature. We strive to protect the environment while beekeeping, aiming to practice natural farming methods such as bee pollination.
Continuing to protect healthy nature with our very own hands is the first step in making delicious honey.

Collaborating with Local Farmers
Our beekeeping staff actively lends beehive boxes to local farmers as well as farmers in Kumamoto (over 1,200 boxes per year). We also promote bee pollination (bee breeding), and distribute Chinese Milkvetch seeds to rice farmers in order to improve soil conditions.
Wholesome Apiriculture (Apiculture + Agriculture) is achieved through strengthening cooperation with local producers like this.
