Clover honey harvesting in Kumamoto began in late April.
This time we interviewed Iwahara-san (right), who has been with the company for 8 years, and Shirai-san (left), who has been with the company for 2 years.
−− How much lotus nectar is there this year?
(Iwa) The number of milk vetch flowers decreases every year, so we couldn't say we harvested much this year, but we still managed to harvest a total of 203 kg of honey.
"Lemon juice" has been loved by many people for a long time.
Nowadays, due to the decline in lotus fields, it is known as a valuable honey.
The beekeeping club members do a lot of physical work, such as carrying hives that weigh up to 40 kg each.
During honey harvesting season, work begins at 4am.
−− Isn't it hard to work so early in the morning?
(Shiro) I go to bed early and get up early, and I start work before the sun comes up, so I drive carefully. Especially near the bee farm, there are no electric lights and there are many narrow roads, so I always try to drive safely.
