In August 2026, the beekeeping club was active in various locations, including honey extraction in Hokkaido, cleaning beehives and managing fruit trees and greenhouses in Kumamoto, and measures against hornets in Amakusa.
We will introduce the daily efforts that lead to honey extraction and fruit harvesting while creating an environment where the bees can work energetically.

In Hokkaido, seasonal honey is harvested.

On August 19, in the Akan area of Hokkaido, we were blessed with good weather and were able to safely harvest linden honey.
On August 5, the bees were moved from Hamachuo Town to the Akan and Teshikaga areas in preparation for honey harvesting.

In Akan, we plan to harvest the bodhi tree, and in Teshikaga, we will collect buckwheat honey, promoting honey collection that utilizes the floral characteristics of each region.
In the nature of Hokkaido, I look forward to seeing what kind of honey the bees will gather during the next harvest.

Creating a comfortable environment for honeybees.

At SUGI BEE GARDEN, we make adjustments such as moving beehives according to the temperature.
Aso City in Kumamoto Prefecture has a lower temperature compared to Kumamoto City even in summer, providing a comfortable environment for bees.
We avoid the extreme heat that can be a significant burden on bees and create an environment where they can move around energetically.

On August 12, the cleaning of the beehives was also carried out.
After use, the beehives are first scraped to remove the inner beeswax and dirt, and then thoroughly cleaned with a high-pressure washer.
Before the next use, flame sterilization is also performed with a burner.
Although it was work in the heat, there were moments when the splashes of water felt refreshing.

At the beekeeping site in Amakusa, measures against hornets are becoming more serious.

On August 26, in the bee yard of Amakusa City, Kumamoto Prefecture, the invasion of hornets has become active.
We have set up hornet traps at the entrance of the beehives, but as the number of incoming hornets increases, we also use sticky sheets to deal with them.
When 2 to 3 hornets get caught on the sticky sheet, more hornets are attracted to that spot.
To protect the honeybees, vigilance against hornets is essential during this time.

Managing fruit trees and greenhouses is also an important task that leads to fruitful results.

On August 7th, we organized the long branches at our kumquat house in the Kita Ward of Kumamoto City.
Long branches can cause damage by touching the fruit or create shade that hinders growth, so we carefully remove them one by one.
This is a diligent but important management task to deliver delicious kumquats.

On August 21, thinning was also carried out at our own kumquat house in the Kita Ward of Kumamoto City.
By picking small or damaged fruits and concentrating nutrients on the remaining fruits, we will grow them larger.

On August 17th, we made pickled plums using Nanko plums harvested from our own plum orchard in Yamagakishi, Kumamoto Prefecture.
Each plum is carefully arranged and sun-dried to ensure that the entire plum receives ample sunlight.
The plums, which have been pollinated by honeybees, are large and meaty.

The finished umeboshi is delivered as an original gift that can be chosen when customers who have registered as members purchase a total of 10,000 yen or more excluding tax.

Pollination activities at a melon farm.

On August 24th, a pollination activity was conducted at the melon house in Aso City, Kumamoto Prefecture, to support pollination by honeybees.
The pollen from the melon flowers seems to be favored by the bees, as they returned to their hives carrying a lot of bright yellow pollen.
