The bee farm where Sukubo Honey is farmed is a short drive from SUGI BEE GARDEN 's headquarters.
SUGI BEE GARDEN 's "Comb Honey" is extremely popular every year.
This time we spoke with Mr. Murano from the beekeeping department, who is in charge of collecting honeycomb honey.
-What is the amount of honeycomb harvested this year?
This year, we were blessed with favorable conditions and were able to harvest about 1.5 times as many as last year.
Murano joined SUGI BEE GARDEN as a new graduate and this year marks his 13th year there.
Every year from late May to June, I am the only one in charge of the honeycomb.
-Please tell us about your annual beekeeping cycle.
*The following are bullet points
July to November: Beekeeping
(Honeybees from all over Kumamoto are being moved to the Aso area so that they can live in a slightly cooler place. At the same time, they are being divided into groups to increase the number of bee families so that more honey can be harvested.)
February to March: Searching for beehives
(While we're slowing the bees down, we're looking for a better environment for them.)
April to June: Growing and harvesting honeycomb
(Bees collect honey in the cells (hexagonal chambers) and wait until the sugar content rises and they close the cells completely.)
- It takes longer to make than regular honey! It's a natural work of art made by bees. I can see why it's so expensive.
-Finally, what do you think is the appeal of Sumida honey?
It may sound cliché, but I guess it's that you can eat honey as is.
It's wild, or rather, in their natural state.
Not only the honey, but the comb is also edible. The comb is made from bee secretions, so it also contains pollen and propolis.Bees' food is honey and pollen, so nothing is wasted. At one point, we almost gave up on the time-consuming production of comb honey, but due to the strong will of our founder, we have continued to produce it to this day.Comb honey is also a symbolic product of SUGI BEE GARDEN.
We hope everyone will continue to love thisdelicious and beautiful comb honey!-
This year's honeycomb is ripe and abundant.
This is the pride of SUGI BEE GARDEN. Please give it a try.
