Impact of Typhoon No. 10

During the last week of August, Typhoon No. 10 passed through Kumamoto, where our head office is located.

I am somewhat relieved that the damage within the prefecture was not as severe as expected.

The day after the typhoon passed, the beekeeping club members immediately went to apiaries in Kumamoto Prefecture to check on the bees.

At the beekeeping facilities in the Aso area of Kumamoto Prefecture, clear skies prevailed after the typhoon had passed.

Since proper precautions had been taken in advance, such as nailing the lids of the beehives in place, there was almost no damage to the beehives themselves.

On the way to the bee field, there were areas where the road was blocked and impassable due to fallen trees and bamboo caused by the strong wind.

We parked the truck on the side of the road and walked to the apiary.

During typhoon season, it is also the job of the beekeeping club members to restore apiaries that have been damaged by storms.

While clearing away fallen trees and bamboo, we went around to each location to check if there were any weak bees.

When I looked into the entrance to the hive, I could see the healthy looking bees.

I'm glad you're safe.
